The Peggy Martin rose, also known as the “Katrina rose,” has a captivating tale that began with Peggy Martin, a Louisiana gardener and descendant of a family with deep roots in the area. When Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, Martin’s garden, along with much of her community, was submerged under floodwaters. Miraculously, one rose bush survived the devastation, resilient against the storm’s fury. This lone survivor, a vigorous climbing rose, later came to be known as the Peggy Martin rose. Its ability to endure the harshest of conditions and thrive amidst adversity captured the hearts of many, symbolizing hope and resilience in the face of disaster.
